The final Up Speak Beta event was held this past Monday night at the Center for Social Innovation. With the close of one first full cycle of Up Speak, I want to express gratitude to all the women who participated.
The “Beta” round was an opportunity for me to see what discussion topics and exercises worked well across groups, and what needed tweaking. After each meeting I would send a follow-up survey to collect feedback from participants about what they found valuable or thought could be improved.
The most valuable thing I learned from these groups was how incredibly inspiring it is to see women, who didn’t know each other before Up Speak, come together to encourage one another. The level of animation grew over the course of each meeting and I felt that I had to expend little effort to get people connecting. Turns out, women want to relate, to find ways to help one another, and to take advice and anecdotes from others to heart.
The Beta round proved that Up Speak’s mission can be possible: Members can walk away from meetings feeling more animated, expansive and clear; can walk away with a greater awareness of what it means to feel professionally satisfied and to have clearly defined action steps to move toward their goals.
I’m excited to be preparing plans for the next round of Up Speak. So stay tuned!
